Renewable Energy Project Development Program
Establishing business partnerships for sustainable market development Population growth and the burgeoning economy in emerging markets and developing countries have led to a sharp rise in energy requirements, which often cannot be met by the existing outdated and inefficient power plants and networks. Thus, demand for alternative and innovative supply options is growing.
The "Project-Development-Program" (PDP) implemented by the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) supports the promotion of renewable energy technologies as a feasible alternative to conventional power generation. By facilitating business partnerships and the exchange of experience and knowhow between German renewable energy companies and those in developing countries, the PDP forms a vital basis for sustainable market development.
Business and delegation trips to Germany help international business partners and decision-makers to receive first-hand information on German products and services.
Sector-specific market analyses offer national and foreign companies as well as decision-makers practical information on market access, business environments, investment conditions and potentials in the fields of renewable energies in developing countries.
Project identification and help German businesses to discover potential partners in new regions.
Policy advice for sustainable investments strengthens market-economy structures and builds an environment conducive to investment for renewable energies.
Capacity building workshops in foreign countries bring together local staff and potential business partners. The PDP offers technical, business and management-oriented training conducted jointly by GTZ, German businesses and local partners.
The offer applies not just to manufacturers and tradespeople, but also to investors, project developers, service providers and operators.
Film: Kenya’s first grid-connected photovoltaic system
The first photovoltaic system to be connected to Kenya's public power grid was constructed at the beginning of 2011 at the SOS children’s village in Mombasa. With support from the Project Development Programme (Projektentwicklungsprogramm, PEP), a German company and a Kenyan partner designed and realised the project.
